Santa Cruz was founded in 1994 at the Seabright Cannery in Santa Cruz, California, from an idea by Rob Roskopp, a former skater and now a mountain biker. The first Santacruz mountain bike was the Tazmon, a full-suspension bike designed for all-mountain riding. However, at the time, full-suspension mountain bikes weren't the norm; a trail bike with rear suspension was considered unconventional. Roskopp was certainly not one to follow trends, and ever since, Santa Cruz has strived to build bikes that allow cyclists to go further, faster, higher, and longer. The company philosophy, even today, is to amaze, create, and manufacture innovative products that shake up the market and break down industry barriers. Over the years, the company has produced unique bicycles, always and exclusively in its California factory, covering every specialty for all cycling enthusiasts. The models are made of both carbon fiber and aluminum and use advanced VPP (Virtual Pivot Point) technology on all full-suspension models. In this suspension system the carriage, with two links connecting it to the triangle, makes the wheel follow an arc-shaped trajectory.
