SKF

SKF is a Swedish company that produces self-aligning ball bearings. It was founded in Gothenburg by engineer Sven Wingquist in 1907. The SKF brand is an acronym for Svenska KullagerFabriken, or "Swedish Bearing Factory." The company later began producing seals, mechatronics products, and lubrication systems. Their products therefore enable rotation for industrial machinery, aircraft engines, trams, subways, bicycles, and household products.Also in 1907, the RIV factory, a manufacturer of ball bearings and steel balls, was founded in Italy. Over the course of the 1910s, the company grew significantly, so much so that it opened a second plant. Destroyed during the bombings of the Second World War, they were rebuilt in 1947. In the 1950s, several other RIV production centers opened, and in 1965, the company became part of the SKF Group, taking the name "RIV-SKF Officine di Villar Perosa S.p.A." RIV-SKF grew and in 1988 became SKF Industrie S.p.A.In 1993, the Wheel Hub Bearing 3 (HBU 3) was introduced, equipped with a sensor for use in the ABS braking system. In 1995, the CARB® toroidal roller bearing was launched, and in 1999, the Explorer series of spherical roller bearings was born. Innovations continued throughout the 2000s, always with the same approach that allowed SKF to be a market leader, boasting more than one hundred production facilities in 70 countries. In Italy, the company operates three companies: SKF Industrie S.p.A., specializing in the production and sale of rolling bearings; RFT S.p.A., a manufacturer of rubber and metal seals and gaskets; and SKF Metal Stamping S.r.l., a steel strip stamping company.Internationally recognized for its quality and technological solutions, SKF places particular emphasis on the sustainability of its production. The brand achieved ISO 14001 certification for environmental protection in 1997 and continues its commitment to reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions today.
