The EVIL THE EPOCALYPSE is the first e-bike from the Bellingham-based manufacturer. It takes its inspiration from the 'long travel' Wreckoning 29 but is powered by the Shimano EP8 motor. The frame is made entirely of carbon, the rear travel is 166 mm while the front is 170 mm, and the wheels are 29.
Evil's DELTA suspension makes the rear triangle one-piece, which, combined with the 157mm SuperBoost + rear spacing, creates a stiff and strong rear triangle. The DELTA suspension uses large main pivot bearings for greater durability. The DELTA suspension linkage offers a progressive double speed curve developed for DH bikes with coil springs. The compact linkage aims to provide a flexible initial stroke, maintain solid traction at mid-stroke and a significant rise at the end of the stroke to offer a bottomless feel.
The bike's power button is located on the underside of the top tube while the motor is positioned very low in the frame to ensure good stability.
The rear end is short and flexible and the rear triangle has a new split yoke design: the horizontal chainstays are 442 mm, while the width of the SuperBoost+ rear end provides ample space for 29 × 2.6" tyres.
The bike can fit a 30.9 mm seat post, can mount crowns up to 36 t and has a water bottle holder located on the front triangle. The bike is fitted with SRAM's UDH derailleur dropout, which can be easily replaced.
A plate with rubber padding and drainage holes protects the motor and keeps water out, and guards on the down tube, chain and chainstays protect the bike from deterioration.
The frame also includes a flip-chip that offers Low and X-Low positions: moving the chip doesn't change the bike's suspension curve, but it does alter the geometry in a few ways: it loosens the head tube by 0.7° (from 65.3° down to 64.6° in X-low), changes the seatpost angle from 77° to 76.4°, and raises/lower the bottom bracket by 9 mm. Moving the chip also adjusts the reach of the frame by 7 mm and the length of the chainstay by 2 mm.
The bike is fitted with the EP8 motor that delivers a maximum torque of 85 Nm, a 630 Wh Shimano battery, and the EP8 system offers three power modes (eco, trail, boost) and a 'walk' function.
The motor has two profiles: Profile 1: provides more power and Profile 2 conserves power output to provide more range. Shimano's E-Tube Project app offers more customisation options for the motor (including power output for each assistance level).
The EP8 is operated via a compact remote control on the handlebar on the left side and a small display unit on the right side of the stem that shows battery life, assistance level, and other riding metrics. The bike recharges in six hours.
The bike kit is as follows: Rockshox XT I9 Hydra with Shimano XT drivetrain, Rockshox suspension (a Zeb Ultimate fork and a Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate rear shock) and Industry Nine's Enduro S Hydra wheel set.
The Energy-Bar handlebar has a backsweep of 8°, an upsweep of 5° and can be ridden from 760-810 mm wide.
The bike is fitted with a set of 2.5″ Maxxis Minion DHF EXO TR tyres, a Bike Yoke revamped telescopic seatpost (125 mm for small, 160 mm for medium, 185 mm for L/XL) and a WTB Volt saddle.
