Sram

SRAM was founded in Chicago in 1987. Its name comes from the acronym of its founders: Scott, Ray and Sam. In 1988 SRAM introduced its first product, the Grip Shift (or twist shift) for road bikes, with immediate success in the triathlon world. Later this technology was also adapted for mountain bikes. In 1995 it introduces ESP, the first derailleur for mountain bikes, characterised by a new and unique 1:1 cable drive relation.
In 2002 SRAM grows further, buying the American company RockShox, specialized in the production of forks and shock absorbers for mtb, and several other companies.  In 2006 it introduced the Rival and Force lines, the latter participating in the 2007 Tour de France. In 2012, SRAM launches a wide range of 1x11 gearboxes for mountain bikes, with the SRAM XX1 group. This group uses a 10-42 cassette and a special front sprocket, made up of both narrow and wide teeth, which holds the chain without the need for a chain guide.

In May 2016 the new 1x12 transmission technology was introduced with two variants, called SRAM XX1 Eagle and SRAM X01 Eagle, whose 500% gear range is comparable to many 2x transmissions. The groupsets are suitable for disciplines such as Cross-Country, All Mountain and Enduro and allow a quick and precise change in any situation.

The following year SRAM released the 1x12 GX Eagle transmission, the same technology as the Eagle XX1 and X01 transmissions, but at a more advantageous price. In 2019 three new wireless electronic groupsets are launched, including the RED eTap AXS road group, with 12-speed cassette, and two mountain bike groups, XX1 Eagle AXS, from Cross-Country, and X01 Eagle AXS, from Enduro and All-Mountain. Each group can be mounted on any frame, and they also have BLE connectivity and an optional free mobile application, called AXS, which offers users the possibility to customize and control an unprecedented electronic transmission: the wireless two-button control and the new electromechanical gearbox allow you to change without ever having to let go of the handlebars. The result is immediate and the gearbox is quieter, smoother and more precise, even on uneven and uphill terrain. The system thus becomes safer and more durable thanks to the X-SYNC™2 crowns.

Today SRAM is a sponsor of several cycling competitions, numerous professional events and national championships, many triathletes and is a supporter of professional women's cycling.
