MTB Pad

Those who love to ride their bikes know very well that the saddle, even if of high quality, is not enough on its own to eliminate pain in the lower parts. The task of the MTB pad is to absorb vibrations and relieve pressure on the intimate areas. The pad and the saddle allow you to ride comfortably and minimize the fatigue of the lower parts due to the many hours spent on the bike.

But how to choose the right MTB pad?

Before proceeding to the purchase it is necessary to ask yourself what kind of pad you want to use if more or less padded, what discipline you practice and how many hours you want to spend in the saddle.
The best MTB pads are those considered as underwear, that is, boxers/underwear with a pad that adheres well to the body and effectively protects the butt area.
The mtb bottoms must protect more the area of the ischial bones and must have a greater padding surface and a more generous thickness.

There are also mtb pants/shorts with a pad. For mtb riding, you usually buy durable technical shorts that offer good protection from branches and thorns. MTB shorts with a pad fit loosely and are usually less used for MTB riding as the pad does not adhere perfectly to your private parts, thus losing much of its effectiveness.
The most common choice for MTB riders is therefore to wear underwear with a pad and a pair of loose fitting pants/shorts for maximum comfort and protection.

Men's pads have a central groove and the contour is specially made to provide maximum support for the ischial bones. The central groove is designed to facilitate blood flow, prevent numbness in the lower parts and promote ventilation.

Women's pads, follow the anatomical shapes of the female body, offer a greater surface area and are also equipped with a central groove that facilitates blood flow and promotes ventilation.

Type of padding of the mtb bottom

The fundamental characteristics to take into account in the choice are the materials with which the pad is made, thickness and density. The thickness and density determine the level of support of the pad.

The padding can be made of polyurethane foam or gel. Foam, compared to gel, provides greater breathability and therefore less sweating. The cover must be made of highly breathable technical fabrics such as microfiber.

A high-density pad compresses more difficultly and guarantees more support, a more stable feeling and high comfort.

A thicker pad provides a higher level of cushioning but makes you feel less of the saddle. If you do long rides on rough terrain it is good to wear a pad with a higher thickness. For short rides on easy terrain you can wear a pad with less thickness so you can feel the saddle more.
