Specialized Bicycle Components, known in Italy as Specialized, was born in California in 1974 by the hand of Mike Sinyard.
After two years of importing Italian bike components into the States, Specialized will start to produce spare parts independently and, in 1981, launches its first two bike models on the market, the Specialized Sequoia mtb with a sporty design and the racing bike. Specialized Allez. The same year he will introduce the Specialized Stumpjumper MTB, the first ever large production mountain bike. In 1989 the Specialized Epic MTB will be the second carbon fiber bike for the mass market. Many internationally renowned athletes and teams have chosen the Californian brand, winning three consecutive world championships with a Specialized racing bike, two Giri d'Italia, a Tour de France, and a Vuelta a España.
