Often, trail wheels fall into two categories: heavy and strong, or, light and baller.It seemed like a pipe dream to find a lightweight, wide-profile, enduro-ready wheel, but fortunately we managed to make it happen. The Traverse SL 27.5 has everything you need for all-mountain.

In addition to lightness, stiffness and strength, another priority was ease of use. No more straight spokes and easy-to-corrosion nipples. The 28 J-bend spokes on both front and rear are all the same length, making them easy to handle for replacement. The new wider-profile, high-flange hub design helps with overall stiffness.

These Traverse SLs are wide, but the 30mm internal width is not fat tire. But let's talk about widths. Until now that of mtb rims ranged within the 19-23mm range and it was time for a change. In their search for a better design, our engineers tested tires with sections between 2.3 and 2.5 inches on fat 45mm rims to see if there were any advantages. After a few rides, they realized that wide rims allowed more air volume, advantages in cornering, excellent traction because you can use lower pressures, as well as being stiffer. On the other hand, they did not feel a lower yield and after testing with everything between 25 and 45mm they decided that 30mm was the optimal width.

Next they turned to rim design, taking advantage of all the knowledge gained from designing the Control SLs, such as the Zero Bead Hook, the design without a 'tooth' that eliminates the weak point of a traditional wheel, and combined with the increased width created a carbon rim that actually dissipates forces.So you'll worry less about impacts with rocks, you avoid splits or cracks.Okay, so they are strong and support tires well - so they will be heavy, right? Wrong.They are anything but fat.

To keep these wheels lightweight they are hand-assembled with our alloy hubs, using the highest quality DT Swiss Competition Race spokes.DT Swiss 240 internals with DT Swiss star ratchet 54t system on the rear.
