While aerodynamics was the main focus during the Tarmac’s development—as with all our race bikes—weight was a close second in the quest for the perfect race machine. Historically, “aero bikes” have always made weight compromises: the more drag you shaved, the more weight you gained. Our design philosophy for the new Tarmac was to keep it at or below the UCI weight limit without sacrificing aerodynamics. With the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, isotropic FEA analysis tools, and a bit of engineering magic from the best team in the business, we built a FACT 9r frame that weighs just 1010 grams, with zero compromises in aero, stiffness, or ride quality. Continuing our pursuit of the perfect race bike, we used our Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy to ensure the new Tarmac is the most balanced and best-handling Tarmac to date—no matter the size. With feedback from thousands of kilometers ridden by our World Tour teams—Boels-Dolmans, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe—we balanced front and rear ride quality so even the longest days in the saddle remain comfortable, without sacrificing legendary Tarmac handling or race-winning responsiveness. Inspired by learnings from the Venge, the new Tarmac features a simple integration for a clean, fast cockpit that’s easy to work on. We improved cable routing for all setups—mechanical shifting, traditional stems, round bars—while maintaining its aerodynamic profile. These same features also make the new Tarmac easy to service and easy to travel with. It’s a win-win.
