• V is for Velocity: In the pursuit of speed, everyone wants to test different positions to find the most aggressive fit. The iconic V-stem of the S5 not only inspires confident handling at high speeds but is now also remarkably simple to adjust. All necessary spacers are included with the bike, and there is now only one bolt length, reducing complexity and making the system 53 g lighter.
• Frame Enhancements: The new UCI aerodynamic design regulations allowed us extra room to deepen aerodynamic profiles and extract 65 more grams of drag savings from what is already the fastest aero bike on the market. You'll notice a deeper head tube, a more robust bottom bracket area, and more aggressive shaping on the trailing edges of the tubes. Since the new S5 is only compatible with electronic shifting, we cleaned up the dropout area and updated the frame shapes throughout.
• Turbulent Aerodynamics: Reserve and Cervélo joined forces to develop an entirely new approach to wheel design and testing for optimal performance in turbulent airflow conditions. Wind tunnels usually measure performance in ideal “laminar” flow—but these are not real-world conditions. We helped Reserve develop rim profiles that stall less dramatically at higher yaw angles; this translates into a more stable, planted ride and increased rider confidence. You go faster because you feel more comfortable going faster. The Reserve 52/63 setup is 50 g faster in laminar conditions and 54 g faster in turbulent conditions compared to the Reserve 50/65 combination.
• Tire Clearance: Wider wheels and tires are both more aerodynamically efficient and more comfortable. The S5 comes equipped with 28 mm tires but has clearance for measured 34 mm tires. The frame is optimized to integrate the wider Reserve 52/63 aero wheels. In addition to improved handling, this setup saves over 5 watts compared to the previous Reserve wheelset.
• Handlebar Refinement: We've improved the handlebar comfort and redesigned its shape for a perfectly smooth transition between bar and stem. It now features a two-bolt interface that allows for infinite tilt adjustment between 0 and 5 degrees.
• Keeping It Simple: Cyclists at all levels are moving away from long-offset seatposts. The new S5 comes with a 15 mm offset seatpost for most sizes (compared to 25 mm on the previous S5). Previous seatposts remain compatible with the new geometry, and we will continue to stock the 400 mm, 25 mm offset version for riders who need a more extreme fit.
