The OTX18 shock is specifically designed for downcountry and stems from the great success of the TTX18 found in Öhlins downhill and trail forks. It shares several key components with its bigger brother TTX18 but weighs 27% less and is optimized for faster, smoother trail riding, finding an optimal balance between traction, control, weight, and stiffness. Like all Öhlins shocks, the OTX18 offers impressive adjustment for tuning, with fifteen low-speed compression and rebound adjustment clicks and three high-speed compression adjustments. The new shock is paired with a robust, lightweight air spring, equipped with a positive chamber and a self-adjusting negative chamber. The positive chamber allows you to adjust the spring curve to your needs using the Öhlins volumetric spacers system. The negative chamber, instead, is designed for fast trail riding and provides a initial soft feel and superb sensitivity to small bumps. The surface and seals of the spring also minimize friction and detent force to enhance the fork’s smoothness. The fork’s chassis is very rigid and offers precise steering, and all this was made possible thanks to a closed outer tube design to increase rigidity, impact resistance, and the volume of the lower leg. Increasing the air volume in the lower part of the fork enhances the air spring’s impact on overall performance. The RXF34 m.2 also benefits from the same floating axle design proven in competition present in the RXF36 m.2 and RXF38 m.2, which reduces friction and further increases rigidity. GRIP X DampingThis cartridge replaces the classic FIT4 and is the perfect companion for trail and all-mountain use. The goal was to reduce weight and simplify adjustments. It offers a finer response, greater suspension travel, and the ability to completely close the high-speed compression (HSC) phase, thus leading to a climb lock. There is also a low-speed compression adjustment (LSC), as well as a low-speed rebound (LSR). An internal floating piston (IFP) to absorb moved oil is now included in this cartridge. The result is a broader usage range and a strong focus on downhill performance. EVOLThe enlarged negative air chamber improves fork response. This increases comfort because the failure torque has been reduced. Additionally, a more linear spring characteristic curve offers better performance, especially in the mid-stroke ranges. FLOAT AIR SPRINGThe FLOAT air spring system reduces the failure torque and provides a highly sensitive fork with full comfort even on small bumps, for every rider and at different air pressures. Every rider thus benefits from the correct and precisely balanced air pressure in both chambers. BLEEDERSThe bleed holes of the immersion tubes allow air pressure equalization with the press of a button. Pressure build-up in the immersion tubes drastically reduces fork performance and prevents full travel, while at the same time the fork's sensitivity and responsiveness suffer on small hits. LOWER LEG CHANNELSWhen a fork compresses, the air in the lower leg channels is also compressed. The more the fork compresses, the greater the pressure rise. This effect makes the fork respond more stiffly and may prevent using the full suspension travel. Overflow channels help solve this by directing compressed air from the bottom of the fork tubes upward, thus reducing the unintended pressure increase. An additional advantage of these channels is that the lubricating oil in the lower immersion tubes flows upward during the spring process and continuously lubricates the foam seals and the sliding bearings. AIR VOLUME SHIMSThe FLOAT air spring on FOX forks and dampers can be adjusted with volume shims to make the suspension elements more or less progressive. This allows the rider to adjust the suspension precisely to their needs.
