With the MAXIMA we set out to end any debate about the most powerful bicycle brake. It is the most powerful brake we have ever built and thus the most powerful bicycle brake in the world. Building a powerful brake was fairly straightforward. The less obvious part was building a brake that, despite its power, still featured the usual exceptional modulation of all Trickstuff brakes. After all, power is worthless without control.
It seems to have worked. Our testers Mick Hannah, Jakob Breitwieser, Nina Hoffmann and Gee & Rachel Atherton are excited. They have already won numerous World Cup Downhill medals with the MAXIMA.
MAIN FEATURES OF THE TRICKSTUFF MAXIMA BRAKE PAIR:
- ERGONOMY: Nothing distracts or bothers the footrest as much as angles and edges. That’s why we don’t have any at the contact point between brake and rider. The surface shape, produced with special milling heads, ensures a brake with no pressure points even after kilometers of downhill runs. Finger placement is also free of annoying friction points such as holes, grooves, or depressions. The brake lever should not overpower the finger, but the finger should overpower the lever. During the natural braking motion, the finger slides on the brake lever as it approaches the handlebar. This movement must be supported by a smooth surface and not hindered by static friction. This means the hand must not rotate to compensate: the handlebar stays firmly in the grip. Give it a try.
- HANDLEBAR CLAMP: The two‑piece milled handlebar clamp is significantly more stable than the previous band clamp and generously compensates for handlebar tolerances. Of course, it is designed for use with our shift lever interfaces or hydraulic dropper lever.
- TOOL-FREE LEVER WIDTH ADJUSTMENT: Simple, efficient, appreciated by our riders: for a quick brake adjustment for the next track.
- BRAKE LINE
The MAXIMA is supplied with Goodridge steel brake lines. The stainless steel braid provides the most pressure-resistant brake line of all bicycle brakes. The result is a defined pressure point despite the enormous transmission ratio.
- Goodridge flexible steel brake hose has a diameter of 6 mm (compared to 5 mm on other brake hoses). Therefore, it does not pass through the internal cable routing openings on all frames. If this is an issue for you, we will be happy to supply you with a bare steel flexible hose. This has a diameter of 5 mm, as the steel mesh is not plastic-coated.
- The MAXIMA is also available with a high-pressure resistant Kevlar hose (5 mm).
- DOT vs oil? No other question occupies the minds of brake experts more than brake fluid. It’s more a religious matter than technical.
The fact is—and practice proves it—that both work! Both work! For the MAXIMA we opted for oil, but not just any oil: our Bionol by DANICO is a plant-based oil with an extremely high boiling point: 300°C, i.e. higher than the boiling point of DOT 5.1. The result: even greater protection against brake fluid boil-off.
- BRAKE PADS
For the MAXIMA we adopted the shape of Hope V4 brake pads. This pad has a wide surface and contributes to the MAXIMA’s stability. Like all Trickstuff brakes, the MAXIMA is approved for use with third-party pads and rotors.
