Pirelli Scorpion Race: the new tires for gravity racing, Enduro and Downhill

Three years after the launch of the Scorpion tire family dedicated to the MTB world, Pirelli completes the range with two gravity products designed for the most demanding Enduro (EN) and Downhill (DH) races.

The Scorpion™ T take their name from traction, both in acceleration and braking or cornering. The central section of the tire features special knobs that increase traction in every phase of rotation. The central knobs are also pre-formed to be cut for better mud evacuation in intermediate conditions, especially for use with the front wheel. The super-soft SmartEVO DH compound is combined with large knobs to offer superb grip on slippery and wet conditions, without compromising the overall stability of the tire thanks to a harder base compound. The DualWall+ is the specific downhill carcass and consists of a dual-layer 60tpi carcass, reinforced with an anti-slice side reinforcement and a rubber insert for the bead. This structure is designed to provide superior protection against cuts and punctures and is designed to absorb small vibrations and large impacts. The enduro-specific DualWall carcass, on the other hand, consists of a dual-layer 120 tpi carcass, reinforced with a rubber heel insert. This structure provides protection and support, while maintaining a low weight and the superior softness and speed of an Enduro Race tire.

The key element of SmartEVO DH is the combination of two rubber compound layers: on the outside there is a high-performance super-soft compound (42 Shore A*), while inside, under the tread, there is a cushioning compound that provides support and impact absorption. The two compounds work together seamlessly, giving the rider a feeling of handling, responsiveness and precision under extreme lateral loads typical of downhill racing. The outer rubber layer is tuned with the understanding that rolling resistance remains a key factor when racing against the clock.

More flexible and lighter, for greater pedaling efficiency and a better riding feel: Two-layer 120tpi carcass, foldable and tubeless-ready, with anti-puncture rubber protection.
