Pirelli Scorpion Race: the new tires for gravity racing, Enduro and Downhill

Three years after the launch of the Scorpion tire family dedicated to the MTB mondo, Pirelli completes the gamma with two gravity products designed for the most demanding Enduro (EN) and Downhill (DH) races.

Scorpion™ T take their name from traction, whether in acceleration, braking or cornering. The central section of the tire features special knobs that increase traction at every phase of rotation. The central knobs are also preformed to be cut for better mud evacuation in intermediate conditions, especially for front wheel use. The super-soft SmartEVO DH compound is combined with large knobs to offer superb grip on slippery and wet conditions, without compromising the overall stability of the tire thanks to a stiffer base compound. DualWall+ is the downhill-specific casing and is composed of a double-ply 60 tpi casing, reinforced with a cut-resistant sidewall reinforcement and a rubber insert for the bead. This structure is designed to provide superior protection against cuts and punctures and is engineered to absorb small vibrations and big impacts. The DualWall casing specific to enduro is instead made of a double-ply 120 tpi casing, reinforced with a rubber insert for the bead. This structure provides protection and support, while keeping limited weight and the superior suppleness and speed of an Enduro Race tire.

SmartEVO DH Compound
Superior grip, better handling and controlled damping: Pure race compound formulation with Cap&Base structure for optimized handling.

The key element of SmartEVO DH is the combination of two layers of rubber compounds: on the outside there is a super-soft high-performance compound (42 Shore A*), while on the inside, under the tread, there is a damping compound that provides support and impact absorption. The two compounds work together seamlessly, giving the rider a feeling of handling, responsiveness and precision under extreme lateral loads, typical of downhill racing. The outer rubber layer has been tuned bearing in mind that rolling resistance is still a key factor when racing against the clock.

More flexible and lighter, for greater pedaling efficiency and a better riding feel: Casing composed of 2 layers of 120 tpi, folding and tubeless ready, with anti-fold rubber protection.
