TIRE PIRELLI SCORPION 29X2.2 MOUNTAIN BIKE SC H XC LITE
Pirelli's off-road tire is named Scorpion MTB (a trademark of the company) for a reason. Just as with the PZero Velo, the road tires that marked Pirelli's return to cycling, the MTB tires also adopt a meaningful name. The Scorpion historically belong to Pirelli's Motorsport tires, with which the company has secured over 70 World MX titles. Like all Pirelli bicycle tires, the new MTB tire range was developed at Pirelli's innovation center, the Milano Bicocca R&D laboratories: the leading among Pirelli's 11 research centers worldwide, with over 1000 researchers and annually dedicating around 200 million euros to the development and innovation of its tires. The SmartGrip Compound blend, the core of the new tires, was produced in Pirelli's Racing plants, where the compound engineering of the famous F1 tires also takes place.
Each size has its dedicated development
The extensive experience gained by Pirelli in years of Motocross presence has been leveraged, in particular, in defining the tread patterns of the Scorpion MTB range—the shape and height of the knobs, spacing, cross-linking, and angles were studied for maximum footprint efficiency on the specific surfaces where you pedal. In designing the new tires based on soil consistency, Pirelli engineers also had to consider many other variables: riding style, and the latest developments in terms of rim profiles and sizes. For this reason, in the new Scorpion MTB, the construction technology is not the same for all tire sizes: each size benefits from dedicated development. The combination and interaction of structures, reinforcements, static and dynamic properties of the compound, sizes, and different designs for various terrains has been an area of technical innovation for Pirelli in terms of product development approach. As Pirelli DNA, which develops all its products by focusing on the specific needs of the consumer, the Scorpion MTB range allows the rider to freely choose the size that best suits their riding style, without compromising performance.
TIRE PIRELLI SCORPION 29X2.2 MOUNTAIN BIKE SC H XC LITE MAIN FEATURES:
- The Scorpion H (Hard Terrain - red) are dedicated to hard ground, compact surfaces and firm rocks.
- Lite: this is the lighter Hard version with even lower rolling resistance. Low profile and compact tread for quick and secure handling on any type of hard terrain, whether dry or wet.
- Grip: SmartGrip Compound for uncompromised grip on dry and wet surfaces.
- Handling: a model designed to be compatible with modern wide-profile rims.
- Damping: Tubeless ready casing at 120 Tpi for greater stability and grip with a modern low-pressure riding style.
- Protection: cut-resistant compound offering superior puncture resistance and balanced protection without compromising performance.
TECHNOLOGY:
- SmartGrip Compound: grip on dry and wet without performance loss. The heart of Pirelli MTB tire technology is the innovative SmartGrip Compound. Thanks to this specific compound, the weather variable does not affect the performance of the new tires, which are designed to offer grip and handling under any weather conditions. As with SmartNettm Silica, which resolved the trade-off between rolling resistance and wet grip of road PZero Velo, this is how SmartGrip Compound closes the gap between tear resistance and grip on wet surfaces in the Scorpion MTB.
