The low steel race, with its distinctive profile, guarantees:

The disc consists of two non-floating pieces and is therefore lighter than a monoblock. The aluminum spider anchored to the race reduces vibrations transmitted to pads/pistons, and the grooves and fins on the braking surface dissipate heat, aiding disc cooling.
