BICYCLE YETI ASR ULTIMATE

The ASR is back. We have never built a lighter full-suspension bicycle, but this one is only half the story. Bring the correct suspensions to proper mountain bike races. The race type that requires skill, not just lungs.
The new ASR marks the widest carbon project we’ve ever tackled. It produced the lightest full-suspension bike in our history, updated the flex-fiber layup design to meet today’s cinematic standards, provided proper setup, an explosive sensitivity to small bumps, insane traction, and 100% usable travel.
Customized blade shapes, critical material choices, smart drapery methods, and smooth transitions between each carbon sheet eliminated redundant carbon, offering radical strength for ultra-light weight. Such an ambitious program, based on in-depth carbon analytics, is a novelty for Yeti.
We aimed to eliminate carbon redundancy everywhere, not just where it was easy. Our more than 20 years of experience with carbon told us we could remove solid volume at the pivot points and still exceed cross-country requirements without any performance or bearing longevity drawbacks.
Another objective of the ASR was to design every frame with the same ride characteristics, giving every rider the same feel, regardless of size. Because the ASR uses single-layer carbon layups to eliminate redundant carbon, every sheet had to be cut with precision. Boring? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely yes. This allowed the specific size to be tuned at a much more sensitive level, and also precisely match the frame’s torsional stiffness and bending profiles.
Back in 2003, our flexible-fork design represented a decade-long approach to full XC suspension. Today, the incarnate ASR considers the relationships between leverage ratio, link sizes, layup material properties, and modern short-travel shocks to offer XC-specific, responsive, efficient, and surprisingly light suspensions.
Unlike the conventional headset bolt positioning method for longer-travel applications, the ASR’s pivot points are positioned so that the existing tube walls constitute a significant part of their shape and structure. To further reduce redundant carbon and save weight.
The ASR features an almost linear progression curve to offer the maximum balance of efficiency in the suspension’s mid-stroke, where XC riders spend most of their time. But with 20% sag, it offers sensitive small-bump compliance typical of longer-travel bikes. Additionally, the last 1/4 of travel is designed to increase ramp, so the strongest hits and aggressive race lines don’t knock the bike off line.

BICYCLE YETI ASR ULTIMATE MAIN FEATURES:

  • Secure closures at the frame’s entry and exit eliminate noises and rubs. The external brake routing from handlebar to head tube makes shifting easier, and there’s no aerodynamic advantage to concealing them.
  • On muddy race days, the integrated rear fender keeps debris from hindering suspension movement. It weighs almost nothing. It’s a frame feature that’s noticeable only when it’s not there anymore.
  • The Hangerless interface creates the most robust and precise shifting, allowing Eagle Transmission derailleurs to be mounted directly on the wheel hub and to engage on both sides of the frame. But the Hangerless Interface is also perfect for previous drivetrains, thanks to the included Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH).
