PENSA FASTER: The Epic World Cup is the fastest XC race bike on flowing courses, thanks to an unmatched combination of efficiency, control, and light weight. Champion Christopher Blevins puts it this way: “This bike gives me everything I could want from a hardtail, with the added control and capability of a full-suspension.” To create this racing machine we used a fully integrated development approach, inventing an entirely new shock, drawing on four decades of victories on the off-road racing stage.
BENCHMARK FRAME: To achieve maximum speed through perfect power transfer efficiency and ultra-precise handling, our team of engineers has set a new standard in terms of torsional stiffness and bottom bracket stiffness. The double-diamond layout is the most sophisticated in the history of Specialized, and supports the stiffness goal by integrating the shock as a structural element.
FAST SUSPENSION: The Specialized Ride Dynamics Team developed revolutionary technology for the Epic World Cup to give it the efficiency and reactivity of a hardtail, plus the control and capability of a full-suspension. The RockShox SID Deluxe WCID (World Cup Integrated Design) shock, with independently adjustable positive and negative air springs, gives the Epic WC the coveted hardtail “scatto”, together with a suppleness that devours terrain and provides the ability to tune the setup based on a specific course or personal preferences.
BEYOND ITS CATEGORY: The 75 mm of travel on the Epic World Cup behaves as if it were much more. When the bike is ridden in firm mode, it offers the same effective travel as a 100 mm travel bike set with 25% sag. Optimization of air volumes and damping characteristics allows the Epic WC to handle hits like a bike with more generous travel. The dedicated MegaJounce bumper provides robust end-stroke support to manage the hardest impacts.
BRAIN: While the revolutionary SID Deluxe WCID shock provides the perfect mix of compliance and firmness at the rear, in the fork the BRAIN is alive and well, with Position-Sensitive technology and 15mm of sag, with no need for lockout or levers to operate.
LIGHT WEIGHT: With a frame weighing only 1765 grams (painted, with shock and small parts), the Epic World Cup is the lightest on the market. This lightness translates into explosive acceleration, maximally efficient climbing, and surprising agility. The sum of these characteristics is speed. We were able to design a frame that is this light and at the same time stiff thanks to what we learned from the design of the Aethos, particularly regarding the carbon layup.
LIGHTWEIGHT COMPONENTS: The Epic World Cup comes with the new Roval Control SL seatpost, ultra-light and stiff, a pair of wheels weighing only 1,240 grams, and an integrated cockpit.
