THINK FASTER: The Epic World Cup is the fastest XC race bike on smooth courses, thanks to an unbeatable combination of efficiency, control, and lightness. Champion Christopher Blevins puts it this way: “This bike gives me everything I could want from a hardtail, with the control and capabilities of a full-suspension.” To create this racing machine we adopted a fully integrated development approach, inventing a completely new shock, aided by four decades of off-road race victories.
FRAME OF REFERENCE: To achieve maximum speed through perfect power transfer efficiency and ultra-precise handling, our team of engineers set a new standard in torsional rigidity and bottom bracket movement. The double-diamond layout is the most sophisticated in Specialized history, supporting the rigidity goal by integrating the shock as a structural element.
RAPID SUSPENSIONS: The Specialized Ride Dynamics Team developed revolutionary technology for the Epic World Cup to give it the efficiency and responsiveness of a hardtail, plus the control and capability of a full-suspension. The RockShox SID Deluxe WCID (World Cup Integrated Design) with independently adjustable positive and negative air springs provides the “snap” of a hardtail, combined with a weight that conquers terrain and allows setup adjustments for specific courses or personal preferences.
BEYOND ITS CATEGORY: The Epic World Cup’s 75 mm of travel behaves as if it were much more. When ridden in firm mode, it offers the same positive travel as a bike with 100 mm of travel set with a 25% sag. Optimized air volumes and damping characteristics allow the Epic WC to manage impacts like a bike with more generous travel. The dedicated MegaJounce pad provides robust end-stroke support to handle the harshest impacts.
BRAIN: While the revolutionary SID Deluxe WCID shock provides the perfect mix of absorption and firmness in the rear triangle, the fork’s BRAIN is alive, with Position-Sensitive technology and 15 mm of sag, without the need for lockout or levers to actuate.
LIGHTWEIGHT: With a frame weighing only 1765 grams (painted, including shock and hardware), the Epic World Cup is the lightest on the market. This lightness translates to explosive accelerations, climbs with maximum efficiency, and surprisingly agile handling. The sum of these characteristics is speed. We managed to design such a light yet rigid frame thanks to what we learned in the Aethos design, particularly regarding carbon lay-up.
