Aerodynamics or lightness alone don’t win races: what matters is speed. To achieve this speed, a uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness, and shock absorption is required. Thanks to complex simulations using real data, our Ride Science Team has verified that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest race bike on any terrain: - 16.6 seconds over 40 km of flat, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo course, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb.
SPECIALIZED TARMAC SL8 EXPERT DI2 MAIN FEATURES:
- AERODYNAMICS: We use aerodynamics where it’s most needed, and in the process we created our fastest road bike ever — yes, even more aerodynamic than the Venge. The front end has been optimized to gain the maximum advantage. The head tube is positioned rearward relative to the front part of the frame’s head tube to offer significantly lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to the new UCI rules, for the SL8 we could use the narrower, more aerodynamic seatpost we have ever made, to ensure that turbulent air in the leg area can flow more easily toward the rear of the bike.
- LIGHTNESS: To create the Tarmac SL8 and build the most aerodynamically advanced bike while respecting the UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew inspiration from what we learned with the Aethos. The team built a frame weighing 685 grams, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bike*. Focusing on maximum lightness in the downtube, seattube, and rear of the bike, we adopted lessons from the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to forces that we were able to reduce material thickness, removing the superfluous. *Except for the time Kasper Asgreen rode our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage.
- RIDE QUALITY: The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it’s precise in the most demanding situations and responds instantly and efficiently to pedal input. While the areas ensuring power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, in the saddle the SL8 is more comfortable, filtering 6% more road shock and allowing you to push into corners with a sense of agility and balance unmatched in road bikes. The new Tarmac SL8 maintains the proven SL7 geometry, with the same generous 32 mm tire clearance, so you can use a higher-volume tire when needed.
