After eight generations and more than two decades of development, it isn’t just the fastest Tarmac ever: it’s the fastest road racing bike in the world. Are your legs ready?
The aerodynamics or lightness alone don’t win races: what matters is speed. To achieve this speed it is necessary to create an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness and vibration absorption. Thanks to complex simulations that use real data, our Ride Science Team has verified that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest road bike on any course: - 16.6 seconds over 40 km of flat terrain, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo route, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb.
Now the fastest bike on any road is available with the new SRAM RED AXS power meter group - the lightest electronic group - mounted with Roval Rapide CLX II tubeless-ready wheels and Roval Rapide Cockpit handlebars.
BICI SPECIALIZED TARMAC S-WORKS SL8 SRAM RED AXS MAIN FEATURES:
AERODYNAMICS: We use aerodynamics where it’s most needed, and in the process we have created our fastest road bike ever - yes, more aerodynamic even than the Venge. The front end has been optimized to maximize leverage. The fork crown is positioned rearward relative to the head tube to offer much lower aerodynamic resistance. Thanks to the new UCI rules, for the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest, most aerodynamic seatpost we have ever built, to ensure that turbulent air in the leg area can flow more easily toward the rear of the bicycle.
LIGHTNESS: To create the Tarmac SL8 and make the bike the most aerodynamic, while meeting the minimum weight requirements set by the UCI, we drew on what we learned with the Aethos. The team produced a 685-gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bike*. Focusing on maximum lightness possible in the down tube, seat tube and rear of the bike, we adopted the lessons learned in the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to loads that the material thickness could be reduced, eliminating the superfluous. *Except for the time Kasper Asgreen rode our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage.
RIDE QUALITY: The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it is precise in the most demanding situations and responds instantly and efficiently to pedal inputs. While the areas that ensure power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, in the saddle the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable, absorbing 6% more of the terrain’s impacts and allowing you to attack corners with a sense of agility and balance unmatched in the world of road bikes. The new Tarmac SL8 retains the tested geometry of the SL7, with the same generous clearance for 32 mm tires, so you can run a higher-volume tire when needed.
BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES: In reality there can be many more differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design based on the individual and our philosophy is simple: Do not create differences where none exist. Every cyclist, man or woman, can benefit from the advantages of the Tarmac SL8. Frame weight: 685 g, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bicycle*. Maximum lightness achievable in the down tube area, seat tube, and rear of the bike. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to stresses that the material thickness could be reduced, eliminating the superfluous.
The stiffness-to-weight ratio is 33% better than the SL7. The frame is nimble and precise in the most demanding situations and responds immediately and efficiently to pedal inputs. The areas ensuring power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever; in the saddle, the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable, filtering 6% more road shock and allowing you to tackle corners with a sense of agility and balance unique in the road bike world. Same geometry as the SL7 with the same generous 32 mm tire clearance, so you can use a higher-volume tire when needed.
