The Future Shock debuted in 2016 and quickly proved its effectiveness by winning Paris-Roubaix in 2018 and 2019. Positioned between the handlebar stem and the headset, it moves opposite to the impact forces that strike the wheel and travel up the fork’s legs. It substantially reduces the impact and vibration on the handlebars, while keeping the front of the bike rigid for precise handling. The result is a 53% reduction in force compared with the competition in typical road cyclist impacts. The result is a smoother ride and greater control to stay fast and safe. The Future Shock 3.0 is adjustable, so every rider can benefit from a 20mm travel.
SPECIALIZED FUTURE SHOCK 3.3 MAIN FEATURES:
ADJUSTABLE: Individual riders can adjust the Future Shock 3.0 response to roughness based on their terrain. Three different springs are available — firm, medium, and soft — and for each of them you can use up to five preload spacers. Do you need a stiff setup for an aggressive position on big cobbles, like the pros? Or perhaps you ride in a relaxed position and want it soft to absorb high-frequency vibrations? The setup can be easily changed at home in a few minutes. If you can remove a handlebar mount, you can install a Future Shock 3.0.
SEATPOST REGULATION: As much as possible to adjust Future Shock 3.0, there are still times when you want firmer or softer settings on the same ride. Quiet climb? Keep the stiffness. Difficult descent? Open it up. The new Future Shock (model 3.3) offers better compression adjustment in the saddle.
FUTURE SHOCK 3.3: hydraulic damping to control movement for a more controlled and comfortable ride. The rider can adjust preload to set the stiffness required for their seating position or terrain. Compression can be adjusted while seated.

The central tread has been kept intentionally low to promote speed, and the rounded side lugs nearby allow for safe braking. The tall knobs on the sides provide high cornering grip. The Gripton compound uses "synthetic rubber reinforced with silicon dioxide," which reduces the amount of energy lost through hysteresis. This means the tire deforms less easily, less heat buildup, and a more efficient tire with improved wear resistance compared to natural rubber. The Gripton compound is soft and adapts to rough surfaces as well. The 56A durometer makes this tire much softer than others and it adapts to surfaces and also filters vibrations, making the ride smoother.

No bicycle is faster than the Tarmac SL8 thanks to a combination of aerodynamics, lightness, and ride quality previously deemed impossible. After eight generations and more than two decades of development, it isn’t just the fastest Tarmac ever: it is the fastest road bike in the world. Are your legs ready?
Air dynamics or lightness alone do not win races: what matters is speed. To achieve this speed it’s necessary to create an uncompromising combination of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness, and vibration absorption. Thanks to complex simulations that use real-world data, our Ride Science Team has verified that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest road bike on any course: -16.6 seconds over 40 km on flat terrain, 128 seconds faster on the Milano-Sanremo course, 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet climb.
BICYCLE SPECIALIZED TARMAC SL8 EXPERT 2025 MAIN FEATURES:
AERODYNAMICS: We use aerodynamics where it’s most needed, and in the process we created our fastest road bike ever — yes, more aerodynamic even than the Venge. The front end has been optimized to maximize advantage. The fork steerer is positioned rearward relative to the front of the frame’s head tube to offer much lower aerodynamic drag. Thanks to the new UCI rules, for the SL8 we were able to use the narrowest, most aerodynamic seatpost we’ve ever made, to ensure that turbulent air around the legs can flow more easily toward the rear of the bike.
LIGHTWEIGHT: To create the Tarmac SL8 and make the bike the most aerodynamic, while meeting UCI minimum weight requirements, we drew inspiration from what we learned with the Aethos. The team built a 685-gram frame, 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other World Tour bike*. Focusing on maximum lightness around the down tube, seat tube, and rear of the bike, we adopted lessons from the Aethos project. The frame shapes respond so efficiently to loads that material thickness could be reduced, eliminating excess. *Except for the one time Kasper Asgreen rode our 585-gram Aethos frame during a Tour stage.
RIDE QUALITY: The stiffness-to-weight ratio of the Tarmac SL8 is 33% better than the SL7. The Tarmac SL8 sets a new benchmark for handling: it’s precise in the most demanding situations and responds instantly and efficiently to pedal inputs. While the areas ensuring power transfer and steering precision are stiffer than ever, on the saddle the Tarmac SL8 is more comfortable, filtering 6% more of the terrain’s vibrations and allowing you to attack corners with a unique sense of agility and balance in the road bikes world. The new Tarmac SL8 maintains the tested geometry of the SL7 model, with the same generous clearance for 32 mm tires, so you can use higher-volume tires when needed.
BEYOND GENDER DIFFERENCES: In reality there can be many more differences between two male cyclists than between a man and a woman. We design around the individual and our philosophy is simple: Don’t create differences where none exist. Every cyclist, man or woman, can benefit from the Tarmac SL8. It’s time to go beyond.
