MTB wheels

MTB wheels are one of the key components when choosing a bike, as they determine the grip on the ground and the pedaling force, depending on the terrain you're riding. Wheels are composed of the hub, the rim (which may or may not contain an inner tube), the spokes, which, depending on their number and shape, can affect the weight of the wheel and its impact on the ground, and the nipples (the rubber studs found on the outside of the wheels), which, based on their spacing and size, determine the type of terrain best suited for pedaling. MTB wheels are the part of the bike that comes into contact with the ground—mud, dust, water, dirt, and rocks—and must therefore be lightweight, durable, have good grip, and ensure a comfortable ride. Wheels must have the right balance between grip and smoothness: grip allows the wheel to stay firmly on the ground, while smoothness allows it to glide. The grip and smoothness of the wheel are determined by the weight, composition (compound), tire width, diameter, and how the knobs are arranged on the wheel. Evaluating the weight of wheels is a fundamental factor when purchasing a new bike or a new set. The weight to consider is not the overall weight of the wheel, but its distributed weight, that is, the difference in weight between the hub and the spokes. Wheels that are heavier on the hub and therefore lighter on the spokes are suitable for mountain bikes because they improve performance and make the bike lighter in contact with the ground. A wheel with a different hub weight for mountain bikes allows you to anticipate the route, easily move the bike over obstacles, and give the bike a better spring when pedaling out of the saddle to increase speed and improve pedaling comfort. Compared to traditional wheels, these wheels are much lighter, bend less, and are less prone to punctures, making the MTB smoother on any terrain.
