GT is a brand founded in 1979 in Santa Ana, California, by Gary Turner and Richard Long, which produces road bikes, mountain bikes, and BMX bikes. BMX frames weren't strong enough for the GT founders, so the two decided to use their experience as car welders and engineers to create a higher-performance frame. The first frames were made of chromoly steel, making the bicycle light, strong, and designed to improve performance. Extremely fast and durable, GT frames immediately became synonymous with quality and won more trophies than any other bike brand of the time.In 1984, the company also entered the MTB sector, introducing its own line of GT Mountain Bikes with the immediate goal of becoming a market leader in that sector as well. In the mid-1990s, the company began producing the first GT full-suspension MTB bikes, actively contributing to both the development of the technology and the development of the discipline. Between the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company designed the new i-Drive suspension system: a safer, more powerful suspension system with good impact absorption capacity. Even in the 2000s, GT Bikes continued to test and market innovative bikes, such as the world's first downhill bike with the IT-1 gearbox and 29" frames made entirely of carbon. GT's goal has always been to help cyclists challenge their limits on two wheels by providing them with a safe and innovative frame.
