The champion Christopher puts it like this: “This bike gives me everything I could want from a hardtail, with the control and capabilities of a full-suspension.” To create this race machine we adopted a completely integrated development approach, inventing a brand-new shock, aided by four decades of victories on the off-road stage.
REFERENCE FRAME: To achieve maximum speed through perfect power transfer efficiency and ultra-precise handling, our team of engineers set a new standard in torsional rigidity and bottom-bracket movement. The double-diamond layout is the most sophisticated in Specialized history, supporting the goal of rigidity while integrating the shock as a structural element.
FAST SUSPENSION: The Specialized Ride Dynamics Team has developed revolutionary technology for the Epic World Cup to give it the efficiency and responsiveness of a hardtail, with the control and capability of a full-suspension. The RockShox SID Deluxe WCID (World Cup Integrated Design) with independently adjustable positive and negative air springs offers the “snap” of a hardtail, combined with a weight that devours terrain and allows setup adjustments for specific courses or personal preferences.
BEYOND ITS CLASS: The Epic World Cup’s 75 mm of travel feels like much more. When the bike is ridden in firm mode, it delivers the same positive travel as a bike with 100 mm travel set with a 25% sag. Optimized air volumes and damping characteristics allow the Epic WC to handle hits like a bike with more generous travel. The MegaJounce pad provides robust end-stroke support to manage the most violent impacts.
BRAIN: While the revolutionary SID Deluxe WCID shock provides the perfect mix of absorption and chassis firmness, in the fork the BRAIN is alive, with Position-Sensitive technology and 15 mm sag, without the need for lockout or actuation levers.
LIGHTWEIGHT: With a frame weighing only 1765 grams (painted, with shock and hardware), the Epic World Cup is the lightest on the market. This lightness translates into explosive accelerations, climbs with maximum efficiency, and surprisingly nimble handling. The combination of these traits is speed. We managed to design such a light yet rigid frame thanks to what we learned in the Aethos design, particularly regarding the carbon layup.
