Rocky Mountain was founded in Vancouver in 1981, taking its name from the Rocky Mountains. It all began in 1978, when the future founders of Rocky Mountain, Grayson Bain, Jacob Heilbron, and Sam Mak, worked in a Vancouver bike shop and mounted wide tires on road bikes. In 1981, the three founded Rocky Mountain Bicycles Ltd. In 1982, they created the first Rocky Mountain fat tire bike, the Sherpa. In the following years, sales expanded beyond Vancouver, reaching as far as Eastern Canada.
In 1988, Rocky Mountains produced its first aluminum MTB, the Stratos, and the company began exporting worldwide, particularly to Europe and Japan. In 1993, Rocky Mountains founded Race Face, to produce cranksets and other components.
In 1997, Rocky Mountain was acquired by Procycle of Quebec. After launching the Rocky Mountains Slayer in 2001, the Altitude was reintroduced in 2012 as one of the first great 27.5" trail bikes.
Rocky Mountain has continued to carve out a name for itself, creating quality bikes, from freeride to enduro to marathon stage races, with the goal of always making better bikes.
The Canadian brand's bikes are featured in numerous world competitions. Among the legendary names who have worked on Rocky Mountain over the years are Paul Brodie, Chris Dekerf, Lance Bohlen, Pippin Osborne, Larry Ruble, Duhane Lam, Al Kowalchuk, and even Wade Simmons, who won the inaugural Red Bull Rampage in Virgin, Utah, in 2001.
For forty years, the Canadian company has been synonymous with mountain bike excellence and innovation, both in geometry and in the field. of mechanics. The success of Rocky Mountain MTB is based on a strong love for the vehicle but above all on competent collaborators, as well as the fortune of having the splendid natural landscape surrounding Vancouver, British Columbia, practically "at home".In addition to laboratory tests, the surrounding territory is very varied and heterogeneous, which ensures Rocky Mountain bikes a series of complete and exhaustive tests, which make Rocky Mountain MTB bikes among the best and safest on the market. In addition to the wide range of MTB bicycles, the Canadian brand prides itself on the creation of a four-bar suspension whose design is focused on riding characteristics: the Smoothlink suspension is efficient and flexible even when you're on the pedals and across a wide range of gears.
