CERVELO S5 FRAME

The S5 has a single purpose: to reach the finish line before everyone else. Under the leadership of Wout van Aert, Marianne Vos and Christophe LaPorte, the new model has already proven to be an unparalleled tool. In the 2022 Tour de France, this bike pushed Wout to achieve the highest points tally of the modern era. At 480 points, Wout had about 194 points lead over his nearest rival: tangible proof that Cervélo continues to provide aerodynamic advantages to its World Tour athletes.

The new S5 has reduced aerodynamic drag by 65 grams and increased the frame surface area while reducing total weight. The deeper sections of the frame maximize the shapes allowed by the UCI. The iconic V-stem has been further refined and the new fork has been designed to simplify the entire front end.

CERVELO S5 FRAME MAIN FEATURES:

  • V stands for Velocity: In pursuit of speed, everyone wants to try different positions to find the most aggressive stance. The iconic V mount of the S5 not only inspires secure handling at high speeds, but is now also extraordinarily simple to compose the perfect setup. All necessary spacers are provided with the bike and there is now only one bolt length, reducing complexity and making the system lighter by 53 g.
  • Frame improvements: The new UCI aerodynam design standards have allowed us a bit more room to deepen the aerodynamic profiles and squeeze 65 more grams of aerodynamic drag from what is already the fastest aero bike on the market. You will notice a deeper head tube and BB area and a more aggressive shaping on the tube exit edges. Because the new S5 is only compatible with electronic shifting, we could tidy up the rear derailleur and update the shapes across the bike.
  • Turbulent aerodynamics: Reserve and Cervélo have joined forces to develop a completely innovative way to design and test wheel performance to achieve optimal performance in turbulent aerodynamic conditions. Wind tunnels typically measure performance in ideal laminar flow conditions. But such conditions are not realistic in the real world. We helped Reserve develop rim profiles that stall less drastically with larger yaw angles; in riding terms, it is more stable, more planted and therefore inspires more confidence. It makes you go faster because you feel more comfortable going faster. The Reserve 52/63 model is faster by 50 g in laminar (traditional) flow and by 54 g in turbulent flow compared to the Reserve 50/65 combination.
  • Tire space: Wider wheels and tires are faster aerodynamically and more comfortable. The S5 ships with 28 mm tires, but there is space for a 34 mm tire (measured). The frame is optimized to integrate the wider Reserve 52/63 aero wheels. In addition to handling benefits, this saves over 5 watts compared to the previous Reserve wheel set.
  • Handlebar shaping: We improved handlebar comfort and altered its shape to achieve a perfectly flat transition between the handlebar and stem. We now use a two-bolt interface that allows infinite tilting adjustment from 0 to 5 degrees.
  • Keep it simple: Riders at all levels are moving away from longer-offset seatposts, and the new S5 ships with a 15 mm offset seatpost on most sizes (versus 25 mm offset on the previous S5). The old seatposts are compatible with the current frame and we will keep in stock a 400 mm long seatpost with 25 mm offset for those seeking a more extreme fit.
