THINK FASTER: The Epic World Cup is the fastest XC racing bike on smooth courses, thanks to an unmatched combination of efficiency, control, and lightness. Champion Christopher puts it like this: “This bike gives me everything I could want from a hardtail, with the added control and capability of a full-suspension.” To create this race machine we adopted a fully integrated development approach, inventing a completely new shock, aided by four decades of off-road racing victories.
REFERENCE FRAME: To reach maximum speed through perfect power transfer efficiency and ultra-precise handling, our team of engineers set a new standard in torsional rigidity and bottom-bracket movement. The double-diamond layout is the most sophisticated in Specialized’s history, supporting the rigidity objective while integrating the shock as a structural element.
FAST SUSPENSION: The Specialized Ride Dynamics Team developed revolutionary technology for the Epic World Cup to give it the efficiency and responsiveness of a hardtail, plus the control and capability of a full-suspension. The RockShox SID Deluxe WCID (World Cup Integrated Design) with independently adjustable positive and negative air springs delivers the “kick” of a hardtail while being incredibly light and enabling setup adjustments for specific courses or personal preferences.
BIGGER THAN ITS CATEGORY: The 75 mm travel of the Epic World Cup behaves as if it were much more. When the bike is ridden in firm mode, it offers the same positive travel as a bike with 100 mm of travel set with 25% sag. Optimized air volumes and damping characteristics allow the Epic WC to handle impacts like a bike with more generous travel. The MegaJounce dedicated pad provides robust tail-end support to manage the harshest impacts.
BRAIN: While the revolutionary SID Deluxe WCID shock provides the perfect blend of damping and stiffness in the rear swingarm, the fork’s BRAIN is alive and kicking, with Position-Sensitive technology and 15mm sag, without the need for lockout or levers to operate.
LIGHTWEIGHT: With a frame weight of only 1765 grams (painted, including shock and hardware), the Epic World Cup is the lightest on the market. This lightness translates into explosive accelerations, climbing with maximum efficiency, and surprisingly agile handling. The sum of these traits is speed. We managed to design such a light yet rigid frame thanks to what we learned in the Aethos design, particularly regarding carbon lay-up.
