The frame has been specially designed to achieve maximum speed through perfect power transfer efficiency and ultra-precise handling, and it has set a new standard in terms of torsional stiffness and bottom bracket movement. The double-diamond layout is the most sophisticated in Specialized’s history, and supports the goal of stiffness by integrating the shock absorber as a structural element.
The Specialized Ride Dynamics Team has developed revolutionary technology for the Epic World Cup to give it the efficiency and responsiveness of a hardtail, plus the control and capability of a full. The RockShox SID Deluxe WCID (World Cup Integrated Design) rear shock with independently adjustable positive and negative air springs gives the Epic WC the “snap” of a hardtail, combined with a weight that devours terrain and allows setup adjustments based on a specific course or personal preferences.
The 75 mm of travel on this bike behave as if there were many more: when the bike is in firm mode, it offers the same positive travel as a bike with 100 mm of travel set up with a 25% sag. Optimized air volume and damping characteristics allow the Epic WC to handle impacts like a bike with more generous travel. The MegaJounce dedicated pad provides robust support at full travel to handle the roughest impacts.
While the revolutionary SID Deluxe WCID shock provides the perfect mix of absorption and stiffness in the rear, in the fork the Brain is alive and kicking, with Position-Sensitive technology and 15 mm of sag, without the need for lockout or steering levers to operate.
The frame weighs 1765 g (painted, with shock and hardware) and the bike is the lightest in its category on the market, and lightness translates into explosive accelerations, climbs with maximum efficiency, and surprising handling. The combination of all these features makes the bike fast.
